ibride

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

ibride is created by a French family in the south of France. The archival imagery is inspired by their travels as well as their local environment. The word ‘ibride’ itself is a play on words meaning ‘hybrid’, and the pieces combine a dual purpose of serving as sturdy and functional trays and turning into wall art when you have finished passing around the drinks.  Using a turn-of-the-century process, a high-pressure laminate with a pre-recycled wood core making them heat resistant and waterproof.  Well I drool no longer, they are on the wall and in the shop now. I also have a couple of the animal tables…..

so check out the link and enjoy the creative trip

Sibella Court’s Etcetera etc.

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

I love the random freedom of Sibella’s work….there is a natural organic take that does not have that over polished done look that seems to be a sign that a stylist is behind the scenes. Gone are the days of such horrible neatness and now we can express ourselves by the collections we have and an ever changing backdrop of colour. Hoping to go to Sydney this weekend  for  Sibella Court’s book launch. The must get title to buy is Etcetera etc. Here’s a sneak peak!  Thanks for the strangetrader mention in the book and our recent mention in the Sun Telegraph under ‘Hot shops in Australia’.

Corpus christi

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

Corpus christi is finally arriving this Wednesday and we can’t wait to undo the box. I feel like I’ve been waiting for it since September when we found it in the Marais in Paris!

Soft Goth makes an unconventional and understated statement. Embrace the new trend with one of the coolest jewellery labels from Paris by Corpus Christi.
Corpus Christi (literary meaning: body of Christ) is what we’ve all have been waiting for. This jewellery is dark and romantic

Pieces are made to order and the company collaborate with the designers to create the most beautiful textiles. We now have some hand picked pieces at strangetrader

Stuff’s coming in…..

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

We’ve received Frederique Morrel….We have the Passe-Muraille Hepburn deer head. This season, the work is entirely dedicated to the theme “Grandeur Nature”, a double entendre (life size and the grandeur of nature). Inspired by the tapestry of La Dame a la Licorne, as well as The Garden of Eden and Noah’s Ark.

Life sized vintage fabric trophy heads……We found these creatures on our recent travels in Paris.

Elle Decor Italia Sept ‘09

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

As seen in Elle Decor Italy. This patchwork blanket and  extra large cushion are part of a new range we are stocking form a Italian design team. They have thrown in their fashion design jobs at Prada, D&G and Genny and have moved into interiors. Lucky us!

The history…

Coperte Abruzzese are colourful two-sided woollen or man-made fibre blankets. They have many uses: bedspreads, tablecovers, cushions, shawls, mats, carpets and throws. They were manufactured from the 1920s and continued a tradition of fine quality woolworking in the lanifici or weaving workshops of Abruzzo, few of which still operate. Coperte Abruzzese date back to at least the 16th century.

The modern interpretation…

Limited edition hand made blanket. Made by cutting pieces of a traditional Abruzzo blanket from the 60’s, then reassembled at random and hand stitch.

Limited edition hand made cushion,  made by piecing together of traditional Abruzzo blanket from the 60’s, then patch-worked together with hand stitching. The reverse side is fine  jacquard wool work.
